This piece was inspired by an old black and white photo of my grandparents. My grandmother was a very proper southern lady and the image of her smoking a cigarette is delightful. The painting is not a direct copy of the photo. The perspective and other elements were heavily changed. The colors were chosen to depict the 60s and of course my love of plaid.
