This piece began with my interest in the visual patterns created by rows of books. I’m drawn to patterns that appear in unexpected places, and the figures’ clothing adds another layer of imperfect, intentionally varied patterning. The two people are imagined rather than based on specific individuals. They are meant to feel connected yet distant.
